Madeline Sheehan is a mad genius. I may have loved this book even more than Undeniable, if that’s possible. Unbeautifully is like the Godfather 2 of the literary world. Seriously, woman, you’ve blown me away.
I’ve been impatiently waiting for this book for months, and folks, it was well worth the wait. I’d gladly wait severalteen more months to be able to experience this ride again for the first time. Finally, the glorious day came, and I had Ripper and the gang in my hot little hands.
Unbeautifully brings us the tequila-soaked story of Danny (Deuce’s daughter) and Ripper, his Sergeant-At-Arms in the Hell’s Horsemen MC. As is always the case with our Horsemen, this is no typical boy-meets-girl love story. This is a devastating atom-bomb of a love story, and god help anyone within a 5 mile radius. There WILL be casualties.
But more than just Danny & Ripper’s story, Unbeautifully gives us more Deuce and Eva, and sneaks us a peek at Cage & Tegan, ZZ, as well as Hawk, Jace, and Dorothy, thereby setting us up for the next books in this amazing series. This is where Madeline’s genius shines. She really weaves their stories into this one, when they could have very easily felt like filler. We’re left balancing on that razor’s edge of being satisfied at where these character are left, and being desperate to know more about them.
Sheehan proves herself to be a master storyteller, seamlessly blending the past and the present. The book starts right where the epilogue to Undeniable left off, then whisks us back to where Danny & Ripper began. In going back to the past, we see how Frankie truly laid waste to so many lives before he went to ground, and is still managing to fuck shit up from the grave.
Some things I did whilst reading this book:
– I laughed (until I choked. True story! There are some serious LOLs in this book!)
– I cried (another true story, I had to call my friend to talk me down!}
– I stared at my Kindle in abject horror. (There were some serious “What.thee.FUCK. moments, yo!}
The emotional rollercoaster this book sends you on is not to be believed. It truly laid waste to my heart and mind.
I’m fully satisfied after reading this, and I feel a little dirty. I think I need a cigarette.
In summary, my wasted heart will forever love you, Madeline, for bringing these characters into my life. As soon as it’s legal, I’m totally going to internet same-sex marry you.
