Woooo…mama! It’s official…I’m packing my shit and moving to Hamden.
This third installment of the Hamden series by W. Ferraro introduces us to Lola and Wes. Wes is the best friend of Seth (Three of Hearts) and Dylan (Three of Spades), and we get to briefly meet him in the earlier books in the series. In Three of Spades, I had a feeling that Wes might be a little freaky, and I was right! Wes is Adonis, God of Desire at Olympus, a swanky sex club!
Me-OW. Mama likes ’em freaky!!!
I think I can safely say that this book was my favorite of the series. Lola was SUCH an admirable heroine. She hasn’t had an easy life. She never really knew a lot of love, and she’s been single-handedly raising her brother, who has special needs, since a young age. But she never really has a “woe is me” attitude. On the contrary. Lola does what she has to do to get by, and she’s so giving, she volunteers to help others whenever she can.
One of the things Lola does is take on a side job at Olympus, an exclusive sex club for people with “particular” tastes in the bedroom. This is where she meets Wes. Although their first encounter is at the club, they continue to cross paths, and their lives quickly become intertwined.
Wes was so good to Lola and Boyd, you couldn’t help but fall in love with him. He doesn’t come off as a “typical” Dom character, that’s just a one facet of his personality, albeit a HOT one!) His affection for Lola, and even for Boyd, is so evident in this book, it just endeared him to me all the more.
Ferraro writes some scorching sexy times, as Wes indulges some of his more “creative” desires, and Lola is the lucky, lucky recipient.
While reading this book, the message that was really driven home for me was that of loving yourself, and not being afraid to let others love ALL of you. For Lola, this was hard, since she didn’t get a lot of love growing up, and it was hard for her to let others in and care for her. For Wes, it’s equally as hard. His extracurricular activities are such a big part of his life, he founds Olympus, yet his best friends don’t know anything about that side of him, because he fears they won’t understand.
There are some stumbling blocks along the way for this couple, but when you find the one who makes your heart sing, there’s nothing that you can’t overcome. Another 4 star read from W. Ferraro! I hope she takes us back to Hamden very soon!
