Auburn Reed has her entire life mapped out. Her goals are in sight and there’s no room for mistakes. But when she walks into a Dallas art studio in search of a job, she doesn’t expect to find a deep attraction to the enigmatic artist who works there, Owen Gentry.
For once, Auburn takes a risk and puts her heart in control, only to discover Owen is keeping major secrets from coming out. The magnitude of his past threatens to destroy everything important to Auburn, and the only way to get her life back on track is to cut Owen out of it.
The last thing Owen wants is to lose Auburn, but he can’t seem to convince her that truth is sometimes as subjective as art. All he would have to do to save their relationship is confess. But in this case, the confession could be much more destructive than the actual sin…
What IS it about Colleen Hoover, anyway? Somehow, her books manage to hold me hostage, keeping my mind captive from the very first page. A Colleen Hoover novel is the literary equivalent of Thin Mints; once I start, I just can’t stop. Of course, Confess is no exception to The Rule of Hoover. I’ve been looking forward to this book for some time, and Colleen has delivered.
Auburn and Owen’s story is something special. An exceptional connection, forged from a painful past. Secrets, love, lies, and devotion all meld together to weave an incredible tale. The bond between the two is remarkable, given their circumstances. I can’t really accurately describe it for you, it really is something you need to feel, to experience for yourself.
Told in dual POV, which is my absolute favorite, you get to experience the story from both sides, which really allows the reader to get lost in their fictional world.
More than a simple love story between two people, Confess explores many types of love, both healthy and unhealthy. This type of story layering is one of my favorite things about a Colleen Hoover book. You always get so much more than you expected.
Then there’s the art. Obviously this book is about an artist, and Colleen actually includes the original artwork that is mentioned in the book. Just like the original music in Maybe Someday, Colleen’s multi-media approach to the stories she pens create a truly immersive reading experience. She’s really blazing a new trail with these features, and I can wait to see what she comes up with next.
As much as I enjoyed this book, I will say that I did feel like the ending was a little bit rushed. However, that didn’t take away from my enjoyment of this story, and the final chapter of Confess made me more than happy.
With each book, Colleen protrays an intensity of emotion that you don’t get from just any book. A rare talent in a sea of unique voices, I feel lucky as a reader to be on the receiving end of her efforts. Whether this is your first Colleen Hoover book, or you’ve read everything she’s ever published, Confess will leave you confessing your love for all things CoHo.
